About Zach Babat

Zach was taken from us too soon, but his legacy will live on through his art. Zach was a professional artist and Alaskan bush pilot. He split his time between Alaska and Montana, the two states with the best fish and wildlife in the world. Zach spent over 20 years as an outdoor guide and pilot. These experiences gave him the inspiration for his artwork. He had the opportunity to get face-to-face with the wildlife species of the west. Zach said “It is the close interaction with animals, their personalities, I try to capture, not just the horns, claws, and teeth.”

Zach used watercolor, transparent and opaque, to bring his animals and fish to life. He perfected the use of watercolor on canvas. This scholarship opportunity is funded by family and friends in the hope that young artists will continue to learn, experiment, and perfect their skills.

The Zach Babat Memorial Fine Art Scholarship is administered by the Out West Art Foundation, Inc.,  an exempt
organization as described in section 501(c)3 of the IRS code. EIN #47-1973719
